Selangor FC and Sanofi Launch 'War Against Diabetes' Campaign - Targets 10,000 Petition Signatures


KUALA LUMPUR, 6th April 2022 - Selangor Football Club, Sanofi Malaysia with the support from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) today launched a campaign to fight Diabetes targeted at communities throughout the country.

The campaign supported by MOH, Diabetes Malaysia (DM) dan Malaysian Diabetes Educators Society (MDES) is called 'War Against Diabetes' and will focus through online activities and programmes from April 2022 to June 2022 with the aim of raising public awareness in living a healthy lifestyle, while providing inspiration and motivation in fighting diabetes.

This is also in line with the Healthy Malaysia National Agenda (ANMS) to encourage the public to undergo health check-ups and take action to prevent Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in an effort to become a healthier nation. The campaign is targeting 10,000 signatures from the public on petitions prepared throughout its duration.

Among other initiatives or digital activities that will be carried out during the campaign are; tips on ideal food intake, exercise routine to practice a healthy lifestyle, advice from industry experts on diabetes, monthly health competitions, sharing of experiences from specialist doctors and people with diabetes and many more. again. All these initiatives will also be participated by several Selangor FC players as professional athletes, Selangor FC dieticians, fitness coaches, and also industry experts and doctors from Sanofi as well as NCD unit specialist doctors from MOH.

Also giving a statement was the Minister of Health, YB Khairy Jamaluddin, "Diabetes is one of the most widespread diseases in Malaysia. The National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) showed an increase of diabetes prevalence rate from 13.4% in 2015 to 18.3% in 2019. The report also shows that one in five adults aged 18 and above have the disease Diabetes or equivalent to 3.9 million people in Malaysia. Hence, this effort is very much in line with one of the main agendas of ANMS which is to improve the health status of Malaysians and this approach itself is also realizing one of the goals of ANMS; amplifying the health message with the involvement from government agencies, and private organizations such as Selangor FC and Sanofi".

General Manager of Sanofi Multinational Organization, Marine Queniart-Stojanovic said, "We at Sanofi always welcome special collaboration and with a football team such as Selangor FC and MOH, this is very unique in its own way as we believe we will be able to amplify the reach to the public in raising awareness and encourage them to prevent and manage their personal health and chronic diseases. Dr. Johan Kamal Hamidon, Chief Executive Officer of Selangor FC, stated that, "Football is the number one sport in the country and Selangor FC has a large number of followers. Therefore, we believe our contribution will be valuable to this campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of Diabetes among people of Selangor and Malaysia. We hope that with this campaign, Selangor FC can share the expertise we have on how to lead a healthy lifestyle from a professional point of view as well as attract the interest and attention of local football fans."
